For a long time, the standard advice to entrepreneurs has been simple: Work harder. Push through. Stay later. Take on more. Solve the problem yourself. And when you're building something from nothing, sometimes that's exactly what you do.
There is a particular kind of pressure that comes with building something successful. People depend on you. So when something isn't working, the natural response is often: Work harder.
I learned that there comes a point when working harder is no longer evidence of commitment. It's evidence that something in the business needs to change. Better systems. Clearer processes. More intelligent use of technology. And fewer things that require the owner's personal involvement.
Because I don't believe business owners should have to choose between growing the company and having a life outside of it. And I don't believe technology should create another layer of complexity. It should do the opposite: Give people capacity back. Give leadership clarity back. Give the business room to grow. And ultimately... Give the owner more of their life back.
